Inner Authority in Human Design: Relearning How to Trust Yourself
Inner Authority in Human Design: Relearning How to Trust Yourself
As entrepreneurs—and as humans—many of us are taught to make decisions based on logic, advice, research, or what makes the most sense on paper.
But in Human Design, your Inner Authority is your internal compass—your built-in guidance system that leads you to decisions that are aligned, supportive, and correct for you.
And if you’re like most people, trusting it doesn’t always come naturally.
It’s not because you don’t have the wisdom.
It’s because you’ve likely been conditioned to doubt it.
What Is Inner Authority?
Your Inner Authority is how your Design tells you to make big decisions—decisions about business, relationships, timing, direction, and commitment.
Instead of looking outside of yourself—polling your friends, obsessing over pros and cons, waiting for signs—you begin to make decisions by feeling what’s right inside your body or energy field.
Depending on your chart, your Authority may show up through:
A gut feeling (Sacral)
An emotional wave (Emotional)
A subtle intuitive whisper (Splenic)
A declaration of will (Ego)
A spoken truth (Self-Projected)
A need to hear yourself reflected (Mental Projector)
Or a slow, lunar-informed process (Reflector)
Each has its own pace, tone, and rhythm.
All are valid.
Reparenting Your Inner Authority
If your decisions were often questioned, dismissed, or overridden growing up…
If you were praised for being agreeable, fast, logical, or “easygoing”…
You may have internalized the belief that your way of knowing isn’t enough.
But reparenting yourself means this:
✨ Trusting your body’s signals again
✨ Giving yourself permission to wait—or act—according to your truth
✨ Letting go of urgency and proving
✨ Learning to listen before the mind jumps in
You’re not behind. You’re just remembering what it feels like to trust yourself.
Practice, Not Perfection
Learning to follow your Inner Authority takes time. It may help to:
Start small: Use your Authority on lower-stakes decisions like what to eat, when to rest, or whether to go to that event.
Notice your patterns: Do you override your gut? Say yes too fast? Delay a “no” because you feel guilty?
Observe your energy: After a decision, track how it feels in your body over time. Did it energize you or drain you?
Over time, you’ll get better at recognizing what your truth feels like—and you’ll learn to act from that place more consistently.
You Don’t Have to Get It Right Every Time
Even when a decision feels aligned in the moment, how it plays out might surprise you. And that’s okay.
Your job isn’t to control the outcome.
Your job is to listen, respond, and trust that every aligned decision—even the messy ones—leads you deeper into clarity.
This is how you build a business and a life that supports the real you—not the version of you who’s just trying to keep up or make everyone happy.
